You Know It's Been Too Long When...

...you forget the web address of your own blog!  I am going to play the busy card.  Yes, I know we are all busy, but I (along with my friend and co-chair, Ann Ficken) have switched into high gear preparing for Academy of the Sacred Heart's annual dinner auction.  To use the old cliche, it is a true labor of love.  But it has really cut into my non-productive time:)  Oh, and that other title I wear---mom---has also taken up a few minutes here and there.

My DVR is almost out of memory.  I've missed almost the entire season of of Grey's Anatomy.  And I'm still on Chapter 7 in The Hunger Games (I hear all the collective sighs out there in cyber-world).  My walk-in closet has become a"walk in at your own risk because you may not find your way out closet."

On the plus side, I've developed and deepened relationships and gotten to know my boys and the young men they are becoming.  Russ and I had the joy of hosting our first big Clever family event yesterday....Easter at our house.  We figured since we were coming up on our 15 year wedding anniversary, it was time to contribute to the family:)  We were blessed with beautiful weather and sweet memories.

So since I've been busy being a mom instead of writing on my blog, I thought I'd end with this endearing poem sent by my friend, Heidi Brown.  When you are in the nitty gritty throes of motherhood, it's a inspiring reminder that we are doing more than wiping noses, cleaning up messes and folding laundry.  And I promise, it won't be another three months before I post again.

“Lest We Forget”
She came tonight as I sat alone,
The girl I used to be...
And she gazed at me with her earnest eye
And questioned reproachfully:
Have you forgotten the many plans
And hopes that I had for you?
The great career, the splendid fame,
All the wonderful things to do?
Where is the mansion of stately height
With all of its gardens rare?
The silken robes that I dreamed for you
And the jewels in your hair?
And as she spoke, I was very sad
For I wanted her pleased with me...
This slender girl from the shadowy past,
The girl that I used to be.
So gently rising, I took her hand,
And guided her up the stair,
Where peacefully sleeping, my babies lay
Innocent, sweet, and fair.
And I told her that these are my only gems,
And precious they are to me;
That silken robe is my motherhood
Of costly simplicity.
And my mansion of stately height is love,
And the only career I know
Is serving each day in these sheltered walls
For the dear ones who come and go.
And as I spoke to my shadowy guest,
She smiled through her tears at me.
And I saw that the woman that I am now
Pleased the girl that I used to be.

Julie, You did a WONDERFUL job with everything on Easter!! Everyone had a great time and didn't want to leave. Your home was beautifully decorated and the food was great! Thank you and Russ for opening your home to the family! It is so hard to believe that it is almost 15 years since you all got married!!! Time has really flown by. Thanks again! Cathy
